In a matchup originally set for February 18, but due to inclement weather was postponed, Elon hosted Campbell University on Tuesday, March 3. The change in when the game was played appeared to be no challenge as the Phoenix shut out the Fighting Camels’ 2-0.

Freshman pitcher Kiandra Mitchum froze the Campbell bats, only allowing three base runners in her five innings on the mound for Elon. Relieving the freshman was junior Kayla Caruso and senior Chelsea White who combined for the final two innings. White received the save, her second of the year.

Both offenses were quiet in the opening innings, but the Phoenix struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning. A single by senior Sarah Little brought around sophomore Carey Million for Elon’s first run. Two innings later junior Emily Cameron tripled scoring freshman Kara Shutt, which was enough for the win.

Elon has attempted to make up many of its game this week, rescheduling the Elon Softball Tournament for this weekend, Friday, March 6.

First, the Phoenix will face North Carolina State University Wednesday, March 4 at Hunt Park.
