The Elon University men’s basketball team lost its fifth straight game on Wednesday, Feb. 11 against the College of William & Mary Tribe 77-58.

Three Phoenix players finished the night in double-figures starting with freshman guard Elijah Bryant who scored a team-leading 15 points. Bryant recorded his first double-double of his career while also playing a season-high 35 minutes. Following Bryant was senior guard Austin Hamilton who had 13 points and sophomore forward Christian Hairston who finished with 10.

Elon shot a respectable 40 percent from the field but struggled to make any points from three-point range, as it only made three of 22 shots.

The Phoenix kept the game relatively close during the opening minutes, but William & Mary began to pull away with 2:18 remaining in the first half after an Elon turnover resulted in a Tribe run. After head coach Matt Matheny called a timeout, the Phoenix was down 38-21.

William & Mary would close the half on a 9-2 run to take a 42-23 lead into the locker room; shooting an impressive 52 percent from the field.

In the second half, Elon managed to cut the Tribe lead to 14 points in the first ten minutes. However, the Phoenix never offered William & Mary a serious threat as it cruised to a 77-58 victory.

The loss marks the ninth in its past ten games for the Phoenix. Elon will return to Alumni Gym on Saturday, Feb. 14 for a game against James Madison University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
