A strong second half propelled the Elon University Women's Basketball team to a 58-43 win over the visiting Towson Tigers on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, Elon is now 4-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play, and 11-6 overall. Towson falls to 3-3 in conference play and 7-11 overall.

The Phoenix led the Tigers for almost the entire game, holding the lead for 35:38 of the contest's 40 minutes. Elon's largest lead of the game came late in the second half, as a big push put the Phoenix 16 with 1:44 remaining.

Elon was led in scoring by Zora Stephenson and Essence Baucom, with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Shay Burnett tallied up 11 points, to come in as the third Elon player with double-digit scoring.

Towson's Latorri Hines-Allen led the Tigers with 12 points, and Dominique Johnson added in 11.

The Phoenix played well on defense, something Elon Coach Charlotte Smith has expressed concern about in the past. "We talk about doing the things that you can control, defensive rebounding. [I] Felt like we had a solid defensive effort. We rebounded the ball well."

Elon out-rebounded the Tigers 48 to 34.

While Towson kept up with Elon in the first half (Elon went into the break up 27-25), the Phoenix came out of the break on fire, outscoring the Tigers 31-18 the rest of the way.

Looking forward, Elon will play UNC Wilmington on the road this Thursday. UNC Wilmington is currently 2-4 in conference play, and 6-11 overall.
