Days after losing a tight one at home to High Point University, the Elon University baseball team fell to the Panthers, 2-1, in 12 innings March 5 at High Point.

With one out in the 12th and runners at the corners, High Point center fielder Josh Greene lofted a 3-2 pitch into center, good for a sacrifice fly and to score the winning run.

The Panthers drew a leadoff walk from Elon senior Jacob Baker, and Elon coach Mike Kennedy pulled Baker in favor of freshman Dimitri Lettas. A wild pitch and a bunt single later, High Point was in position for Greene to drive in the winning run.

Baker takes the loss after one inning of work with two walks. High Point’s Cas Silber earns the win after pitching a scoreless 12th for the Panthers.

Both teams scored one run in the 6th inning. Elon sophomore catcher Danny Lynch walked with the bases loaded, while Greene doubled in a run for High Point.

Matt Harris started on the mound for Elon, going six innings allowing just three hits with two strikeouts. At the plate, Elon mustered just two hits off the Panthers pitching staff, both in the first five innings.

Elon drops to 8-4 on the season and will travel to the Chanticleer Classic at Coastal Carolina University this weekend. Game times have been rescheduled as follows: 10 a.m. March 8 vs. University of Minnesota, 5 p.m. March 8 vs. University of Maryland, Baltimore County, 2:30 p.m. March 9 vs. Coastal Carolina, and 4 p.m. March 10 at Latham Park vs. UMBC.
