The Elon University men’s tennis team routed Division III Greensboro College, 7-0, Feb. 16 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The Phoenix took nothing for granted, sweeping the Pride in under two hours.

Elon won all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. Junior Dan Sablik and sophomore Ishmael Sanchez Delfin shut out sophomores Tyler McLemore and Keanu Fletcher at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-0.  Elon junior Juan Madrid and freshman Chris Humphreys clinched the doubles point taking down Matt Miller and Ian Weiner, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.  Sophomore Robert Lindgren and junior Christopher Geaslen completed the doubles sweep at No. 1 doubles by defeating senior Matt Troy and sophomore Kyle Gatti 8-2.

The Phoenix continued its dominating performance into the singles portion of the match, as no Elon player lost more than two games in their matches. Geaslen gave the Phoenix a quick 2-0 lead, winning 6-0, 6-0 over senior Chris Espinoza at No. 6 singles. Sablik also failed to drop a game in defeating McLemore at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0.  Humphreys clinched the win for the Phoenix easing past Gatti at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Elon kept its foot on the gas even with the contest already decided.  At No. 5 singles, Delfin overcame Weiner in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.  Madrid was the third player for the Phoenix to not lose a single game as the Spaniard defeated Troy at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Lindgren completed the shutout at No. 1 singles by beating junior Matt Miller 6-1, 6-1

The Phoenix will rest up during the week before traveling to Wilmington, N.C., for the weekend.  Elon will take on the University of North Carolina at Wilmington at 1 p.m. Feb. 21 before taking on East Tennessee State University at 12 p.m. Feb. 22.
