Freshman men's basketball forward finds balance in his game

Head coach Matt Matheny said Tyler Seibring is a changed man. The freshman forward has been a staple for the Elon University men’s basketball team, starting in all 27 games thanks to some necessary bulking in the off-season. “What he’s done since he set foot on campus in June is remarkable,” Matheny said. “The way he transformed his body to get ready for a grueling first year [of college].”

Men's basketball keeps close but falls at UNCW

The Elon University men’s basketball team stayed within five points of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in the final seven minutes of the game, but could not take the lead, dropping 86-82 Thursday night in Colonial Athletic Association action. The Phoenix cut the deficit to one at four different moments in the second half and led for a grand total of 15 seconds in the game. The Seahawks were able to keep Elon away, answering nearly every Elon basket with a basket on the other end to extend their win streak to a school-record 10 straight victories. “We’re a better team now than when we got [to Trask Coliseum],” said head coach Matt Matheny, who turned 46 Thursday.

Column: Experience should benefit women’s lacrosse team

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team isn’t young anymore. At least, not in terms of experience. The Phoenix enters its third year of competition (its second in the Colonial Athletic Association) after an encouraging 2015 campaign that included a CAA Rookie of the Year performance by now-sophomore midfielder Stephanie Asher. Elon also has a wealth of experience, something that wasn’t the case for the past two years as it built the program.

Women’s lacrosse ready to attack new season

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team’s introduction to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) may look rough on the standings. But the 1-5 record doesn’t tell the whole story, and junior attacker Sloane Kessler finds a lot to draw from the program’s first year in the conference.

Junior women's basketball player shoots way out of struggles

After missing 37 shots in a row, junior guard Maddie McCallie could have allowed her struggles to control her thought process when she had a shot. But her teammates on the Elon University women’s basketball team wouldn’t let that happen. “She’s a shooter,” said junior guard Essence Baucom. “We always tell her we have confidence in her and to keep shooting. That’s what she did.”
