Alex Iadisernia earns baseball All-American honors

Alex Iadisernia was named to the 2021 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, becoming the first Elon player to be named a Freshman All-American since Kyle Brnovich in 2017. He was also named the Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Year and was selected to the conference’s All First and Rookie Teams.

Elon women’s lacrosse bounced from CAA quarterfinals

Elon women’s lacrosse, now 9-4, is out of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament after losing to the No. 5 seed Towson University Tigers, now 11-7, in the quarterfinals. The Phoenix, seeded No. 4, fell behind early and were unable to mount a rally against the Tigers, who controlled the game throughout.

No rest for women’s track and field after CAA championship win

The women’s track and field team is on a high after the team’s 17.5-point victory at the Colonial Athletic Association championship win this past weekend. The championship win, the Phoenix’s third of the past seven seasons, will now give some members of the team the opportunity to continue into the postseason.

Elon women’s lacrosse looks ahead to CAA tournament

With the regular season now complete, the Elon women’s lacrosse team is turning its attention to this week’s Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Lacrosse tournament. The Phoenix are the No. 4 seed in the CAA Tournament and will play No. 5 seed Towson University on Wednesday, May 5 in the quarterfinals.

Elon women’s soccer falls in first round of NCAA tournament

Elon women's soccer’s first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1999 is over. The Phoenix lost 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. By the end of the first half, Elon women’s soccer was deadlocked at a score of 0-0 against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers.

Elon volleyball players recognized with postseason awards

Elon University volleyball players Leah Daniel and Jordan Gower both had exceptional seasons this year and now have the awards to prove it. Daniel took home the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year award, while Gower was named to the CAA All-Conference Second Team.

Elon women's soccer to face Milwaukee in NCAA tournament

Elon University’s women’s soccer team and 2021 CAA champion is set to face the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer tournament. The game is set to take place April 28 at 3 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. This will be the first time that the Phoenix will face the Panthers in team history.

Elon women’s soccer tops No. 1 seed, advances to CAA finals

Elon Women’s soccer (5-3) advanced to its first ever CAA conference championship after defeating the No.1 seed Hofstra Pride (7-1-1) 1-0. The defense prevented scoring opportunities for Hoftsra and allowed the offense to lift Elon to the finals. The Phoenix captured victory on the back of goalkeeping from its freshman goalie McKenna Dalfonso.

Baseball season off to 'inconsistent' start

Elon head baseball coach Mike Kennedy described their season thus far as “inconsistent.”Currently, the team has a 7-13 record overall and is 1-2 in conference play. The team lost on March 26 to then No. 8 East Carolina 15-0. The Phoenix then returned to play against the Pirates the next day, beating them 2-1— it was Elon’s first win against at top 10 ranked team since 2013.

Elon spring football: A tale of two quarterbacks

Since Week 3, Elon has been rotating back and forth at quarterback between freshman JR Martin and redshirt freshman Justin Allen. Martin has appeared in four games for Elon, recording a team-high 396 passing yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. Allen, meanwhile, has recorded 290 passing yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in three games played.

Women coaches underrepresented at Elon, Division I sports

In the last 50 years, the number of female athletes in college sports dramatically increased. However, women coaches are now more underrepresented in women’s college sports. Currently at Elon, approximately 26% of non-volunteer coaches are women 一 double counting for coaches who are on staff with multiple teams. Female collegiate coaches have not always been underrepresented in women’s sports. The trend started when Title IX 一 a law, which prohibits federally funded institutions from discriminating on the basis of sex 一 was enacted in 1972 and greatly increased representation of female athletes.

Playing with fire: Elon's only feature twirler

Growing up, many children are warned not to play with fire. But Elon University junior Jill Ford did just the opposite. Ford has a position in Elon’s “Fire of the Carolinas” marching band dancing with batons as the school’s feature twirler. Throughout her performances Ford can be seen simultaneously twirling up to three — sometimes flaming — batons.
