Elon University students historically have had lower political participation. The Princeton Review ranked Elon six in the country for colleges with the least-politically active students, based on students’ ratings of their own political awareness. Since August 2020, 32% of Elon students have registered for the first time with Elon Votes.
As of Nov. 3, North Carolina had 7.3 million registered voters, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website. NCSBE said it anticipates that the results reported by the end of election night will include 97% or more of all ballots cast in North Carolina in the 2020 general election. Some Alamance County voters opted to vote in-person on Election Day.
One of the defining political issues for Hispanic conservative voters is economic policy. A coalition of Hispanic Republicans is working to elect conservative candidates and to get Hispanic people elected to office.
On Election Day, students will have the chance to take the BioBus — which will be running on loops all day — to voting centers. In addition to this option, they can drive or walk themselves to their polling place.

Voters in Alamance County have lined up at the polls for early voting at the county's five locations. Adrianne Mowry has been at Holly Hill Mall encouraging voters to vote for the Green Party while Sadie Howard-Stanfield has been working at polls for over 30 years and his currently the Democratic precint chair at the Elmira Community Chair.
The presidential election is not the only thing on the ballot in North Carolina this November. In addition to voting for president, Alamanace County voters will pick a governor, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator, state representatives and Alamance County commissioners.
On Thursday night, Elon University’s Student Government Association held a Project Task Force meeting to discuss topics including connecting the school community with the town and security issues. Representatives discussed ideas and brainstorm ideas as opposed to passing legislation.
This will be the first election many college students will cast a ballot in, and it’s widely considered a monumental election for other reasons as well. As tensions across the country remain high from the COVID-19 pandemic, other concerns regarding Black Lives Matter protests and health care affordability during the pandemic are also defining issues voters currently face.
With Election Day quickly approaching and early voting starting last week, Elon University students are gearing up to cast their ballots on or before Nov. 3. 28 million Americans already have voted early. In Alamance County over 21,000 people have voted early according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
With 35 of the 100 U.S. Senate seats up for election in 2020, Democrats are looking to unseat incumbent North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis with their candidate Cal Cunningham. Tillis, 60, is seeking his second term in office after defeating then Democrat incumbent Kay Hagan in the 2014 elections.Cunningham, 47, is a former state senator and retired military officer. Throughout his career Cunningham has worked at law firms.
Elon University’s Student Government Association passed Senate Resolution 20, which expresses support for the Black Lives Matter movement and adopts eight articles to support marginalized groups on campus.The articles include increasing diversity within SGA, the student body, Elon’s faculty and the Board of Trustees. The resolution also affirms the SGA’s commitment to anti-racism.
Today is the first day of early voting in North Carolina. Hundreds of voters have been lining up at Holly Hill Mall,the closest early voting location to Elon University of the five different locations in Alamance County. Voters began lining up around the building before 8 a.m. to get to the polling place within the mall.
As the national spotlight focuses on the 2020 presidential race, the 2020 North Carolina gubernatorial race is quickly approaching as well. Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper and Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Forest are facing off in the race for governor this November. North Carolina is one of 11 states holding an election for governor in 2020.
Early voting in North Carolina begins on Oct. 15 and runs until Oct. 31.To vote early, there are five different early locations in Alamance County. Voters can cast their ballots at any of these locations.
In nine of the past ten presidential elections, the Republican party candidate has won the state of North Carolina. The Board of Aldermen passed the Elon University major development plan at the regular session on Oct. 13. Board members also passed a water-sewer connection and sewer only connection policies as well as amendments to the town of Elon code of ordinances and the holiday display policy.
Elon University has submitted a new proposal to the town of Elon to close East Haggard Avenue. The revised proposal cites student security as the reason for closing the road after a convoy supporting the reelection bid of President Donald Trump drove through campus in September.
Two-term U.S. Rep. Ted Budd, a Republican, is being challenged by Democrat Scott Huffman, a Navy veteran and small business owner, to represent North Carolina’s 13th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Budd was first elected in 2016 — winning 56% of the vote — and won reelection in 2018. Huffman has never held public office, and this is his first time running.
