High-risk faculty and staff can apply for accommodations for the fall semester as the coronavirus pandemic remains a threat. According to Elon's Human Resources website, the process for requesting accommodations in the fall is a seven-step process.

Elon University to require students to be tested for coronavirus prior to fall semester

Once the test is conducted, students are instructed to quarantine before returning to campus. Students will not be allowed to return to campus if they do not quarantine, according to new details from Elon University’s Ready & Resilient committee.

New ICE policy leaves international students concerned over immigration statuses this fall

Visa-holding students attending schools with in-person classes, like Elon, can take a maximum of one class online under the new regulation, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. If a mixture of online and in-person classes are offered, students can take more than one online class.

North Carolina non-profit provides funds to Alamance County residents in need during pandemic

Down Home North Carolina, a non-profit advocating for rural communities in the state, established a mutual aid fund in March to help those impacted by the coronavirus in Alamance, Jackson, Hayward, Madison, and Cabarrus counties.

Elon University requires face coverings indoors and when social distancing outside is impossible

Elon University announced a new mask policy in which students, faculty and staff are required to wear face coverings while indoors as well as outdoors when six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. The new mask policy went into effect 5 p.m. June 26.

North Carolina mandates face coverings statewide, Alamance County surpasses 1000 coronavirus cases

Face coverings will now be required in public places for all individuals in North Carolina effective Friday, June 26, Gov. Roy Cooper announced on Wednesday. In a press conference,Cooper said this mandate under Executive Order No. 147 comes after the continuous increase in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in the state.

ACE Speedway temporarily shut down by the state

Jason and Robert Turner, owners of ACE Speedway in Altamahaw, opened for their first race since October on May 23, after Gov. Roy Cooper initiated Phase 2 of reopening North Carolina amid the coronavirus pandemic. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services issued an abatement order against the speedway for violating mass gathering limitations.

LabCorp, Cone Health help mitigate coronavirus pandemic on local and national scale

With the help of LabCorp, Cone Health started providing polymerase chain reaction tests to their patients. LabCorp was the first commercial lab in the U.S. to provide these tests. With testing at three different locations in North Carolina — one located in Alamance County at the Alamance Regional Medical Center — healthcare workers at Cone Health collect nasal swabs from patients then shipped the samples to LabCorp for testing.

Coronavirus leaves small school draft prospects searching for next move

In the 2020 NFL Draft only six FCS players were drafted out of 255 picks, compared to 13 in 2019 and 19 in 2018. Greg Liggs Jr., former defensive back and a 2019 Elon University alumnus, hopes to get scouted once coronavirus regulations allow physical interactions with scouts.
