Faculty and administrative members of Elon University’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter challenged the university to revise the minimum foreign language requirement to better prepare students for a globalized society. They crafted a resolution asking the university to increase the basic requirement, which would communicate the importance of proficiency in a foreign language.

Elon University's Board of Trustees approved the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget Feb. 14 and determined the cost of tuition for the upcoming academic year. There will be a 3.99 percent increase, and tuition will cost $28,633. Room, board and fees for a typical undergraduate student are set to $9,827, according to an e-net article. Gerald Whittington, senior vice president for business, finance and technology, confirmed these figures with The Pendulum. The increase in tuition represents the smallest dollar increase since the 2004-2005 fiscal year.
President Barack Obama recently nominated Vice Adm. Bill Gortney, Class of 1977, to head the United States Fleet Force Command, which organizes, mans, trains, maintains and equips Navy forces and develops and submits budgets.
Elon University School of Law hosts conference about international law
The Elon University Staff Advisory Council and Academic Council devised a new bias and discrimination policy inclusive of all types of harassment and discrimination, offering clarification for the process of reporting an incident of harassment. The Academic Council proposed the policy to faculty and staff and will vote on the policy Feb. 17.
