Richard Roedner, town manager for the town of Elon, announced that the town government is renting the building on 104 N. Williamson Ave, in downtown Elon. The town will be relocating its new downtown development department there, as well as establishing the Elon Police Department’s community outreach program.

Jamil Kadoura, owner of Mediterranean Deli, expects the restaurant to open the first week of March. He said construction for the new location in the Town of Elon finished, and that they received their certificate of occupancy from the health department on Feb. 6.

For friends Gretchen Pete and Coral Erikson, visiting the Gilded Bean Coffee Bar has become a staple of their weekly routine. The two said they would travel all the way from Burlington and Graham, respectively, to Gibsonville — where the coffee bar is stationed — and catch up with each other over coffee and treats.

Elon University classrooms will use Glean, a browser-based note taking application, as an additional accommodation resource for the 2023-24 academic year after a pilot program last year. Students with approved note taking accommodations through Disabilities Resources will have access to Glean.

Patsy Simpson officially resigned from the Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education, despite a previous announcement that she would not step down until learning how the board would be finding her replacement.

Patsy Simpson, the longest running member of the Alamance Burlington School System Board of Education, rescinded her resignation after announcing she will step down at the end of the school year. Having served since 2009, Simpson said she will remain on the board until the school system reveals to her the criteria in the selection of her replacement.

Junior Chloe Higgins, class of 2024 president, was appointed speaker of the senate during Elon University’s first Student Government Association meeting after elections. Higgins was nominated for the position alongside Connor Vaughn, senator of the School of Arts and Sciences. Higgins won, receiving 13 of the 16 votes.

During Senior Amaya Gaines’ research at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of Chicago, she discovered they were a part of a network of “think tanks” throughout the country. As Gaines prepares to graduate in the spring, she said she’s thinking about the legacy she will be leaving behind and thought that Elon could benefit from a similar program.
