I will admit that I have never been an avid fan of Chris Christie, the Republican governor of my home state of New Jersey. Ideological differences aside, I have never felt a personal connection to Christie, or the policies he has implemented thus far during his term. We have differing visions of how to foster the American Dream.

In the crowded Harold Acting Studio on Williamson Avenue, 11 senior acting majors take their places for rehearsal. Our nation has a long history of voters who go to the polls to cast their ballot for or against a candidate based on a single issue. From gun rights to affordable health care, abortion rights to renewed tax policies, far too many voters have cast their ballots with only one issue on their minds, and have potentially shifted the political history of this nation.

When the Class of 2012 first arrived at Elon University, they gathered for the first time as a class Under the Oaks for the annual New Student Convocation. Presiding over the ceremony was President Leo Lambert, who assured the audience they would reconvene four years later in the same spot, under the shade of West Area’s aging oak trees. The occasion, he promised, would be a celebration of the class’ graduation from Elon.
