Last weekend, I had the privilege to learn about the research being done by undergraduates across the country. While there was a great variety of disciplines and topics represented in the presentations, one stood out to me as a female university student: sexual assault. One of the most beloved traditions at Elon University is College Coffee. And what’s not to love? It’s a chance to see friends and professors and what’s happening on campus. It’s also a chance for students to get a free snack and some coffee or juice.

The second Wednesday of classes, one of my professors made a comment about how we as students couldn’t possibly be stressing out yet. I thought about all of the meetings filling up my calendar, due dates cluttering my planner and messages filling my inbox. I didn’t know whether I should laugh or cry.

When Sarah Silverman used the word “meshugaas” in her speech at the Oscars Feb. 28, I knew what it meant. But I’m a Jewish woman who was raised hearing Yiddish words and phrases scattered throughout conversation, so I thought it was great when I saw Dictionary.com kindly tweet out a link to their definition of the word for everyone following along on Twitter.
