Stephanie Hays, from Seattle, is the design chief for Elon News Network. She is currently majoring in communication design and minoring in digital art and math. When not hanging out at the Elon News Network office, you can find her doodling, attempting to cook or watching every show available on Food Network.

New hiking trail provides close outdoor opportunities for Elon students

Just a 10 minute drive from Elon, there’s a new trail for hikers, birdwatchers and those who just enjoy the outdoors.  The trail, named “The Breakaway Trail,” begins at the Guilford County Farm and stretches 2.2 miles across farmland, grape vineyards, woods and a creek before ending at a pond. It will celebrate its grand opening Friday, April 27.

Classroom technology helps and hinders learning

With the rise of technology, computer programs and online homework websites have become commonplace in classrooms to help enhance student learning. Programs such as Microsoft Excel are common in business classes, while lesser-known programs such as Mathematica have a dominant place in Elon’s math classrooms. And online homework sites such as Cengage, McGraw Hill, Pearson, Moodle and WebAssign are all used by students for submitting homework and getting homework help.

Painting the way through Elon

Hannah Fernandes-Martin has always had a passion for art. And while she has always had a flair for all things artistic, when she first arrived at Elon, she planned on being an English major.
