A whole new DIY: TrendFACTORY exhibit invites students to create community art

Art exhibits in museums are usually made to be seen and never touched. But that is not the case for artist and University of Texas professor Leslie Mutchler's fifth and last TrendFACTORY exhibit in the new Arts West Gallery at Elon University. Mutchler said every time the show moves locations and has a new audience, it changes the type of experience the viewers receive. Upon entering the gallery, a visitor would see huge, numbered instructions on the wall.

Annual ‘Dance in the Landscape’ takes dance majors offstage, into the sun

Elon University underclassman dance majors were lucky for a rare and unconventional reason Sunday — the weather was clear. “Dance in the Landscape,” the annual outdoor dance performance, took place in Pardue Court this year under a blue sky on Family Weekend. Jason Aryeh, assistant professor of performing arts at Elon, directed the show with the help of the assistant director, senior Julie Crothers.

'Break the Night' wins Sprite Films Contest

The results for the 2013 Sprite Films nationwide film competition are in and Elon University alum Dean Coots’ submission, titled “Break the Night,” won both the Green Ribbon Panel Award and Fan Favorite Award, making it the first double winner in the program's history, Sprite Films announced today. After winning the Green Ribbon Panel Award, senior Dean Coots — the film's director — will receive a $30,000 contract job to work alongside Sprite and The Coca-Cola Company brand executives to develop content.

Elon's Alpha Psi Omega produces Shakespeare’s plays with a hilarious twist

Plays with the word “Shakespeare” in the title typically scare students away, but the acting students in Elon University’s theatre honor society, Alpha Psi Omega, put a humorous spin on the classic Shakespeare plays with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).” “It’s one of the funniest shows I’ve ever done,” said Sean Liang, a senior BFA acting major.
