Former dancer puts background to work as university accompanist

Sandy Blocker was told he couldn’t chase his dreams because he was white. As a senior about to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a BFA in dance, Blocker attended a class that he said changed his life. “A friend of mine invited me to watch his African dance class,” Blocker said.

Family owned general store serves up charm

It’s the kind of place that makes you feel at home, regardless of where your home may be. Driving down North Carolina Highway 49 headed south, winding far out into Alamance County, lies Bellemont, a quaint little area near Graham with an abundance of green pastures, farmland and a charming southern feel. A small, unassuming store appears aside Bellemont Mount Hermon Road.

Strummin' on a sunny afternoon

It's not often that you see random whims of musical or artistic action around Elon's campus, so on the rare occasion that a gent is spotted outside of the Acorn Coffee Shop strumming his guitar and singing sweet melodies, it stands out. After Josh Kendrick got off his shift at work, he came on over to "downtown" Elon to play some tunes on this beautiful afternoon.

Hey, Fever

Spring has sprung, and The Pendulum staff is antsy with Spring fever. With midterms coming up and Spring Break just around the corner, the staff is bound to need some comic relief from their busy schedules - much of which is so wholeheartedly dedicated to the Pendulum. So here's just a casual Friday afternoon photo shoot outside the Pendulum office...to keep things spicy, and such.

Winter Wonder Moment

Despite not having much of a winter at Elon this year, the rain that came on Sunday evening turned to snow, granting us one (very minimal) white blanket for less than 12 hours.

Curated African art exhibit honors Black History Month

Freshman art history students Bethany Hill and Elizabeth Chang voluntarily took on the roles of Exhibition Designers in a project to curate African art in honor of Black History Month. The pieces used in the Arts West exhibit “Obscurity in Plain Sight,” which opened Feb.
