Women's soccer brings momentum into start of conference play

After knocking off Francis Marion University on Sunday, Sept 16 in their final non-conference game of the season, the Phoenix women’s soccer team feels like they could be well on their way to putting their sluggish start and injury-plagued non-conference portion of the schedule behind them as they start conference play this weekend. “We look nothing like what I had pictured a month and a half ago but I feel great,” Neal said.

Big weekend looms for Elon women's soccer

As the final weekend of non-conference play approaches for the Elon University women’s soccer team, many questions about the rest of the season will be answered, all while supporting a great cause Sunday afternoon against Francis Marion. Last season, Elon welcomed the High Point University Panthers to Rudd Field for a non-conference matchup.

Heartbreak for women’s soccer in Wilmington

Two goals in a matter of six minutes over the course of two different games was all it took. The Phoenix women’s soccer team dropped both games of the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Tournament in Wilmington this weekend. After falling behind early Friday night against Troy University, the Phoenix battled back to send the game to overtime.

Injuries marring Elon women’s soccer early on

It’s been a slow start to the 2012 season for the Elon women’s soccer team. After battling to a draw on opening night against the University of Cincinnati, the Phoenix have been victorious just once by tallying a win with a 4-0 defeat of Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va.

Wolfpack too tough for Phoenix to handle

The Elon University women’s soccer team made the short trip over to Raleigh, N.C., on Sunday afternoon to take on ACC foe North Carolina State and fell to the Wolfpack by a final of 3-0, dropping to 1-3-1 on the young season. “We competed and put a lot of effort out there today,” Elon sophomore goalkeeper Kate Murphy said.

Freshman Mel Insley comes to Elon on a winning streak

After playing for and winning the U-18 USYSA National Championship this summer with her club team, the FC Pennsylvania Strikers, freshman defender Mel Insley arrived at Elon University riding her very own wave of success. “(Winning the championship) was amazing,” Insley said.

Women's soccer draws 1-1 tie with Cincinnati

Elon athletics are finally back as the Women’s Soccer team kicked off their 2012 campaign with a 1-1 tie over Big East opponent, Cincinnati. “It was a well fought game on both sides and I’m proud of our team for battling a lot of injuries and adversity tonight,” Chris Neal, Elon head coach, told elonphoenix.com. One of the injuries Neal was referring to was to preseason all-conference goalkeeper, Kate Murphy.

Winning on the road has been a difficult challenge for the Elon University women's soccer team this fall. After failing to secure a win in its first seven away matches, the Phoenix finally got a victory away from Rudd Field with a 2-1 win against The Citadel Oct.
