Siewers’ late goals gives Elon women's soccer thrilling win over Furman

It ain’t over until it’s over, right? In a match-up of two of the highest scoring women’s soccer offenses in the country, Elon University faced a number of deficits against Furman University, the first-place team in the Southern Conference. But the Phoenix never gave up, coming back from margins of 2-0 and 3-2 to earn a 4-3 victory over the visiting Paladins, capped by two goals off the foot of freshman midfielder Kelly Siewers in the final 12 minutes of play. The win snaps a three-game stretch in conference play in which Elon failed to come through with a victory, instead settling for a pair of ties and a loss. “We had been struggling from a chemistry standpoint,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal. “Even though our conference record was .500, we were incredibly disappointed.

Phoenix cruise past in-state rival High Point 5-0

The score spoke for itself Sunday, Sept. 8. The Elon University women's soccer team welcomed High Point University to Rudd Field and just as quickly as they got to the game, the Phoenix dispatched the Panthers with a convincing 5-0 victory. Becoming somewhat of a rivalry game in recent years for the Phoenix and the Panthers, Elon dominated from the start, got on the board early and never looked back. "The only time we've had this big of a win is against (the University of Tennessee at) Chattanooga," said senior forward Catherine Brinkman.

Chris Neal brings in class of 12 for 2013 women's soccer season

Isaac Newton’s Third Law of Motion states, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Little did Newton know, his law would be used for more than just science. The Elon University women’s soccer team brought the law into the world of sports with its 2013 recruiting class — one that features 12 new additions to the team as well as two transfers, both of which came from Clemson University. With numerous knee injuries, including multiple torn ACLs in 2012, the Phoenix had a lot of question marks entering the season — ones that could only be remedied by bringing in more recruits as insurance. “Initially, the recruiting class started off as a smaller class,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal.

Stark saves Elon late as Phoenix battle Pirates to 1-1 draw

Through 84 minutes on Sunday Aug. 25, the Elon University women’s soccer team had dominated the East Carolina University Pirates. That all changed with six minutes remaining in regulation, as the Pirates converted on their second corner kick of the match to all but pull the rug out from under the Phoenix, who at the time owned heavy shots and corner kick margins of 13-1 and 21-2, respectfully. That is if the Pirates could hold on. Three minutes later, the Phoenix tied the game with a goal from senior Chelsey Stark to knot the game at one.
