Elon sends off seniors with shutout victory over Delaware

Before she ran off the field to cheers and applause from her family, teammates and fans, Elon University senior goalkeeper Kate Murphy reflected on a senior day performance she won’t soon forget. “It feels like my entire career kind of came to a fold here on our own field,” Murphy said. Frantically going through her phone with a sentiment of jubilation swirling in her mind, Nicole Dennion held off the joy for just one moment to send a simple, powerful five-word text message in all capital letters to her teammates: “MY PET SCAN WAS CLEAR!” The memo incited utter hysteria from the Elon University women’s soccer team, signifying the triumph of Dennion in her battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that affects the bone and its tissue.

With a run of three straight victories, the Elon University women’s soccer team is heating up going into its inaugural season in the Colonial Athletic Association.  “We’re certainly going in the right direction,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal.

Phoenix not shaken by losing skid

The Elon University women’s soccer team kept its composure despite struggles to open up the year.  After beating Jacksonville State University 2-0 in its season opener, the Phoenix has lost four straight games. “Four straight losses is something we’re not used to,” said Elon head coach Chris Neal.

Insley's long road to recovery paying dividends

Elon University junior defender Mel Insley is back in action for the women’s soccer team after suffering ACL and menisicus injuries that kept her from the field.  After being cleared at the end of spring ball, Insley has burst onto the scene this fall, starting all four matches for the Phoenix.
