PHILADELPHIA – The Elon University women's basketball team is going dancing for the second straight year. The No. 3-seeded Elon team knocked off No. 1 Drexel University in the title game of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament 57-45 to claim its second CAA title in a row.
PHILADELPHIA – What looked like a totally different team from yesterday, the Elon University women’s basketball team came out red hot against the James Madison University Dukes in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals matchup, cruising to a 76-53 victory.

Just shy of the centennial mark, the Phoenix set the record for most points in a Division I conference game. Five Elon players finished the night in the double figures. Senior guard Shay Burnett and freshman forward Jaylin Powell each had 15 points on the night, sophomore center Ra'Shika White scored 13, and sophomore guard Lexi Mercer and senior center Malaya Johnson each captured 10. This is the third time this season that the team has had five players reaching double figures.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — When senior guard Essence Baucom fouled out of the Elon University women’s basketball team’s first game in the NCAA Tournament in school history, head coach Charlotte Smith stopped her as she went to the bench. With Baucom tearing up, Smith opened her arms and pulled her point guard and star defender in for a hug, an embrace that concluded Baucom’s time in an Elon uniform. The 11th-seeded Phoenix lost 75-62 to sixth-seeded West Virginia University March 17 in College Park, Maryland, ending its best season in the Division I era in the first round of the Big Dance.
