Softball thrives in early going despite weather

After the Elon University softball team returned from the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Florida, it went nine days without playing a game because of inclement weather. This length of time in the middle of the season with no games or consistent practice regiment can often get the better of a team and cause it to crumble, especially since softball relies on repetition and constantly practicing different skills. “The team loves to play games,” said junior infielder Emily Cameron.

Softball beats Hampton on late game sac-fly

The Elon University women’s softball team defeated Hampton University 4-3 on Friday. The teams were tied going into the bottom of the ninth when freshman shortstop Hannah Olson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score senior third baseman Aly Quintana and give the Phoenix the win. Through two innings, the teams were tied at 1-1.

Elon sweeps Citrus Classic in Orlando

After the Phoenix Opening Tournament that was scheduled last week, but due to inclement weather was rescheduled, the Elon University softball team traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Citrus Classic.

Phoenix goes winless at Georgia Softball Classic

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the Elon softball team looked to come back from two losses on Friday. The Phoenix was unsuccessful as it dropped both games on Saturday as well. In the first game of the day, Elon took on Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Elon student thrives as two-sport athlete

Playing one varsity sport is hard enough, but for one Elon athlete, senior Ali Ford, playing two sports is just as much fun as playing one. Ford was originally recruited to play basketball for the Phoenix, but had always had a passion for softball.
