Men's soccer opens season with draw against Northeastern

After going winless in the preseason against two top programs in the country in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of South Carolina, the Elon University men’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Northeastern University in both teams’ first game of the Duke Classic in Durham Friday night. Northeastern wasted little time getting on the board in the 9th minute on junior Donovan Fayd’Herbe de Maudave’s long-distance strike.

Going for more: Elon men's soccer looks to improve on stellar 2012 with challenging 2013

Looking to exit the Southern Conference with a third straight conference tournament championship and a second straight regular season title, the Elon University men’s soccer team announced its 2013 schedule Tuesday. Following arguably the most successful season at the Division I level in 2012 with a 15-5-2 record and a 4-1 record against ranked opponents, the Phoenix follow it up with an 18-game regular season schedule that features nine teams that finished in the top 100 RPI in 2012—three of which finished in the top 25. Men's soccer bows out of NCAA Tournament early against Coastal Carolina

After arguably the greatest season is school history, the Elon University men’s soccer team fell 3-0 to Coastal Carolina University, ending their season and leaving many to ask where a performance like that had come from. The Phoenix, after all, wpayday loans onlineon double-digit games this season, captured both the regular season Southern Conference title and postseason tournament championship, and had made their second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Phoenix had the leading goal-scorer in the nation in forward Chris Thomas, who was named the SoCon Player of the Year, and head coach Darren Powell, who was named the Coach of the Year. And yet, with as much talent as the Phoenix had, their season ended with a resounding thud Thursday night in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Phoenix started fast, just as Powell wanted them to, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Program revival flows off the field for Elon men’s soccer

At Fat Frogg Bar and Grill just off-campus Monday night, the Elon University men’s soccer team, fans and other university-related figures watched as spot after spot was revealed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament bracket, without their school’s name being csale viagraalled. Men's soccer preps for Coastal Carolina rematch in first round of NCAA Tournament

The Elon University men’s soccer team, fresh off their second straight Southern Conference tournament championship, has learned their fate in the NCAA Tournament and will open with a road game at Coastal Carolina University, an opponent the maroon ancheap cialis onlined gold know all too well. The two teams will play their fourth game in the last two years, one of which was last year’s NCAA Tournament first-round game in Conway, S.C., which ended in a 4-3 Chanticleers’ win. Phoenix head coach Darren Powell said game preparation will be less difficult given the familiarity his team has with their opponent - the coaching staff need only to watch game film from any of the team’s past matches. “We’ll go back, review video right now of the game we played them this year,” Powell said Monday night after the draw was announced.

Men's soccer outlasts Davidson in first round of SoCon Tournament, face Georgia Southern Thursday

It wasn’t easy, but the Elon University men’s soccer team escaped Rudd Field Saturday with a 2-1 win over the Davidson College Wildcats in front of a raucous crowd of 717, whom senior forward Chris Thomas credited with helping his team battle back from a goal down to win their first round Southern Conference tournament game. “By 20 minutes left in the second half we had the twelfth man on the field,” Thomas said.

Men's soccer battles Duke to scoreless draw, earns SoCon regular season championship

After 120 minutes of hard-fought soccer, the Elon University men’s soccer team was unable to put the ball in the back of the net, ending the game with a scoreless draw against the defensive-minded Duke University Blue Devils, a strong team from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Phoenix came into the game riding a three game winning streak, including a win over fellow ACC foe Wake Forest University; the fourth ranked team the Phoenix has beaten this season. This game, however, was a game with a different style of play against a defensive-minded Duke team, a back line that goalkeeper Nathan Dean believes is one of the best in the nation. “They showed today how strong they can be in the back,” Dean said.

Coming off an impressive 4-3 win over the Georgia Southern University Eagles, the Elon University men’s soccer team lost another high scoring affair to the College of Charleston Cougars 3-2 Tuesday night at Rudd Field. Thomas penalty kick helps Elon upset No. 21 Furman in overtime

It took 91 minutes and 45 seconds of soccer, but the Elon University men’s soccer team was able to beat the 21st ranked Furman University Paladins on senior forward Chris Thomas’ penalty kick less than two minutes into overtime. The win was the third over a nationally ranked team for the Phoenix, who move to 2-0 in Southern Conference play after last weekend’s 2-0 win over Davidson College. The game went back and forth, with several quality scoring chances in each half for each team.

2024 Earth Week keynote speaker offers advice on coping with climate anxiety

Britt Wray, author of “Generation Dread: Finding Purpose in the Age of Climate Anxiety,” spoke to Elon University on April 24 as the 2024 keynote speaker for Earth week. Wray began by linking the idea that major fossil fuel companies, powerful lawyers and lobbyists choose to ignore damages inflicted by businesses. These efforts, according to Wray, have hindered people from taking action to stop them — which Wray deemed a global crime scene. She said by 2070, an estimated 19% of the planet will be inhabitable due to increases in global warming.

Office of sustainability hosts events across campus

Elon’s office of sustainability plans events throughout the year in collaboration with other student organizations, according to Kelly Harer, associate director of sustainability for education and outreach. Elon is focusing on improving sustainability efforts specifically waste reduction. A system Elon uses to measure its sustainability efforts is the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System. Based on data from Elon’s submission Feb. 11, 2022, which is valid until March 16, 2025, Elon received a silver rating, earning 59.12 points out of 100. The points are broken down in different categories across academics, engagement, operations, planning and administration and innovation and leadership.
