Phoenix suffers first loss of season against South Carolina

On the heels of its highest ranking in program history, the No. 8 Elon University men’s soccer team lost for the first time in 2015, losing 3-1 to the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.   A second half brace from junior midfielder Danny Deakin sank the Phoenix after senior midfielder Eduardo Alvarez leveled the match at one apiece in the 50th minute. The win drops Elon to 7-1, while the win brings South Carolina to 4-2-1.  The Phoenix’s first chance of the game came from a shot by senior midfielder Miguel Salazar in the fifth minute, but his effort from the top of the box was blocked by the Gamecocks defense.

Men's soccer opens CAA play with win

No. 20 Elon University men’s soccer got their Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) campaign kicked off with a 3-1 win on Friday night, beating the Drexel Dragons in front of an overflow crowd that lined the fences at Rudd Field.

Phoenix men's soccer streaking, start season 4-0

The Elon University men's soccer team has started 4-0 for the first time since 2006. The Phoenix wrapped up their weekend in Wilmington, North Carolina at the Courtyard Wilmington-Wrightsville Beach Classic with a pair of victories over Campbell University and the University of North Carolina. The scene was depressing, with blank stares across many Elon University men’s soccer players’ faces as they coped with their loss to Northeastern University in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. Baseball assistant leaves, CAA commissioner to retire: Elon athletics notebook

One third of the trio is gone. Elon University associate head baseball coach Greg Starbuck has taken a position as a volunteer assistant at Clemson University, new Tigers coach Monte Lee announced Tuesday. Starbuck, 51, spent the last 17 years at Elon as the recruiting coordinator and batting and baserunning instructor. At Clemson, he'll work with hitters, infielders and catchers. The move breaks up one of the longest-tenured coaching staffs in all of Division I baseball.

In the last month, Elon University has released its men’s and women’s soccer schedules for this fall. It’ll be the second year in the Colonial Athletic Association for the Phoenix, which the men thrived in during the regular season but the women struggled. Let’s break down both team’s schedules. Elon soccer teams study abroad over spring break

The men's and women's soccer teams are in spring training to gear up for the fall season, but over spring break, the men traveled to Spain while the women headed off to Costa Rica for an athletic and cultural experience of a lifetime. Walk-on athletes find motivation to play through passions

Many walk-on athletes, who are on the roster but do not receive athletic scholarships, say they find their motivation by simply loving the game. "I get a high sense of fulfillment from playing," said Sam Hershberger, a junior on the men's basketball team. Hershberger was in contact with Elon coaches before enrolling in the university, but he said they were upfront in explaining he would be a walk-on athlete.

Elon soccer season ends without NCAA bid

For the first time since 2010, the Elon University men’s soccer team will not be playing in the NCAA Tournament. The field of 48 teams was released Monday, and the Phoenix did not receive an at-large bid. Elon made the last three NCAA Tournaments by virtue of winning the Southern Conference Tournament.
