Women’s lacrosse ready to attack new season

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team’s introduction to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) may look rough on the standings. But the 1-5 record doesn’t tell the whole story, and junior attacker Sloane Kessler finds a lot to draw from the program’s first year in the conference.

Elon, CAA say transition has been smooth through one year

Reflecting back on a year in the Colonial Athletic Association, the feelings director of athletics Dave Blank has gauged from Elon University athletes have been positive. Elon made the transition from the Southern Conference last summer, a move that meant more travel and an increased level of competition for Phoenix teams. The women’s track and field team provided the lone team conference title, winning last weekend’s CAA Championship meet in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Phoenix lacrosse finding a home in CAA

This was probably just what Elon University had in mind when it made the move to the Colonial Athletic Association. A late Friday afternoon women’s lacrosse game against a team from Long Island who brought fans to tailgate. That sounds quintessential for the league, one based with teams up through the mid-Atlantic where lacrosse is a popular sport.

Women’s lacrosse stifled by Drexel in final game of season

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team lost 10-7 to the Drexel Dragons Sunday. The loss marks the team’s fifth in Colonial Athletic Association play this season and effectively eliminates the Phoenix from advancing into the CAA Tournament. “They did a very good job at detaining our cutters,” said head coach Josh Hexter.

Asher leads women’s lacrosse in hot start

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team is off to a strong start. A group of young talent led by freshman midfielder Stephanie Asher has propelled the program to a 7-3 start this season. Asher made an immediate difference for the Phoenix this year.

Elon women's lacrosse examines growth entering second season

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team’s game against No. 8 Duke University Feb. 7 served as a progress report grading the team’s growth through one full year as an active program. The Phoenix fell 17-8 to the Blue Devils. Elon previously faced Duke in its inaugural season, losing 25-4 in Durham.

Elon releases 2015 women's lacrosse schedule

The Elon University women’s lacrosse team will face two schools that finished in the top 10, five schools that made the NCAA Tournament, as well as its first opponents in the Colonial Athletic Association this upcoming year. The Phoenix released its 2015 schedule on Monday, which opens up against their former Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Kennesaw State University at Rudd Field on Jan.

Elon falls to Detroit in A-Sun Semifinals

The second-seeded Elon University women’s lacrosse team finished out its season May 2 with a 15-11 loss to third-seeded University of Detroit Mercy in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. The Phoenix put up a fight, taking the advantage in shots 29-23, putting 27 on net, but Titans goalie Lexie McCormick came up with 16 saves to keep the Phoenix attack out of the back of the net.
