The Elon University Poll released its latest survey results entitled, 'Elon Poll: Cooper pulls ahead in N.C. gubernatorial race' on Wednesday, April 19. This month's poll asked questions from a variety of topics, including: House Bill 2, North Carolina's U.S. Senate race, the 2016 U.S. presidential election and public policy issues. The Elon University Poll's last survey, released February 22, focused on the upcoming presidential election.

Elon University Senior Staff member Randy Williams has been named the Elon University Associate Vice President for Campus Engagement, a new role among the leadership staff positions at the university. The new position is meant to show the university's focus on fortifying student life, university development and academics.

Media critic and blogger Anita Sarkeesian had been facing serious harassment and threats as part of the 'Gamergate controversy' since she launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a series of videos addressing sexism in video games, but this threat was different. She was set to give a talk at Utah State University, when a anonymous call to the dean's office forced her to consider otherwise.

Vice President Emerita Dr. Jo Watts Williams received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award on May 30, 2014 at Elon University's annual Staff Appreciation Day. Past recipients include Maya Angelou, John Hope Franklin and Elon President Emeritus Dr. J. Earl Danieley.

Elon freshman Stephanie Lamm describes herself as a "progressive voter," who feels a personal responsibility to stay aware and active in the political activities that revolve around her, within her state. Next on her agenda is participating in the HKonJ March (Historic Thousands on Jones Street), and Lamm hopes that fellow Elon students will be interested in getting involved with her.
