On Sunday, Dec. 23, two people were killed in a four-vehicle collision on University Drive between North O'Kelly Avenue and East Haggard Avenue. Town of Elon Police officers responded to the accident at 12:21 a.m.

Using on-scene evidence and witness accounts, Elon Police has confirmed that Phillip Javon Solomon was driving a 1999 Audi traveling east on University Drive with two passengers, Devante Clinkscall and Anthony Cox. All three were ejected from the Audi due to the impact of the crash. Cox sustained no life-threatening injuries, but both Solomon and Clinkscall died on scene. Solomon was 23, and Clinkscall was 21.

It is speculated that Solomon attempted to pass a 2014 Honda carrying two people by driving on the right shoulder of the road.  When Solomon tried to go back onto University Drive, he collided with the Honda, resulting in him losing control and swerving into oncoming traffic.

Solomon then collided with a 2016 BMW driven by Britney Lee.

Both vehicles slowed, causing Lee's vehicle to be struck from behind by driver Bryant Pride II, who was carrying two passengers in a 2010 Audi. Lee sustained injuries as well.

This investigation is ongoing. Elon Police cannot currently comment on whether alcohol or speed were factors in the accident.
