The First-team All-Colonial Athletic Association honoree signed a contract to play professional volleyball with Nurmon Jymy, a team based in Seinajoki, Finland, this past Friday.

The Virginia native was team captain her senior season for the maroon and gold, and she also led not only Elon University’s program, but also the Colonial Athletic Association in kills (518) and points (568) last season.

“I'd like to thank the Elon volleyball program and athletic department for developing me as a player and person over the last four years,” Busa told Elon Phoenix. “Without them, I wouldn't be in the position I am to accept a professional contract. I'm looking forward to this next chapter in my athletic career, but I'll never forget the time I spent at Elon!"

Former first team All-American coach Mary Tendler believes Busa is ready for the professional spotlight.

"Sydney has worked hard at developing her game both physically and mentally, and she is prepared for international play," Tendler told Elon Phoenix. "Nurmon Jymy is getting a player that can impact the game in so many different ways and is very willing to do whatever it takes to help her team succeed. We are extremely proud of Sydney for what she has accomplished here at Elon and very happy to see her continue her career in Finland."

Nurmon Jymy is one of nine teams in Finland’s top division, and Busa is expected to start this September.
