SGA held its first business meeting of the new 2018-2019 legislative year after hosting a community town hall last week. For the new executive officers — Executive President Kenneth Brown Jr., Executive Vice President Charlie Cheema, Executive Secretary Jack Johnson and Executive Treasurer Max Pivonka —  it was their first time leading a meeting.

All of the new senators, class officers, and council members were inducted tonight. The first-year elections packet, outlining the rules and procedures of the next election, passed with changes made in expanding awareness in SGA elections.

Jodean Schmiederer, dean of student development, and former SGA Executive Secretary Rachel Hobbs introduced a committee focused on improving school spirit and student’s voices. The committee will focus into Elon’s previous campus traditions, such as New Student Convocation and receiving an acorn,  and how it could implement new ones.

Schmiederer said she wanted the committee to be “proactive” instead of “reactive,” by listening and communicating to students before the events.

SGA will hold it’s next business meeting on Thursday, April 19 in Moseley 215.
