At his final Communications Advisory Board Luncheon, outgoing School of Communications Dean Paul Parsons was recognized for his service to the school.

Elon University President Connie Ledoux Book announced that the student newsroom in McEwen will be renamed the Paul Parsons Student Newsroom and the Founding Dean scholarship will be named in his honor.

Associate Dean of the School of Communications Don Grady said they are "going to ask Dean Parsons to work up a description and specific qualifications" for Founding Dean scholarship recipients.

The Communications Advisory Board Luncheon was held on April 6 in the Williams Studio.

"Knowing that this was [Parsons’] last advisory board meeting as dean, we had to do something," Grady said.

The advisory board used Elon Day to solicit support and funding for the scholarship, Grady said.

Parsons was the founding dean of the School of Communications when it opened in the fall of 2001. Four candidates toured the campus and made public presentations last month. The new dean is expected be announced within the next two weeks.
