The Town of Elon Police is looking for information regarding an assault incident that occurred on East Trollinger Avenue near the railroad tunnel early Monday morning at 12:49 a.m.

In an email sent to Elon University students, faculty and staff, Elon University’s Assistant Chief of Police Douglas S. Dotson said the police are actively investigating an incident where a male was assaulted by another male who then left the scene in an unknown direction.

There is currently no known threat to the campus community. It is believed the victim and suspect know each other and that the incident did not involve Elon students.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Elon Police Department at 336-584-1301.

Dotson reminded students in his email to report suspicious behavior by calling 911, to always be aware of their surroundings and to use the blue light phones or the LiveSafe smartphone app if they ever feel endangered on campus.

He also encouraged the use of the on-campus escort program through Campus Safety and Police by calling extension 5555.
