Elon University President Leo Lambert will deliver the Commencement address to the Class of 2018 May 19, according to an email sent to seniors. The announcement keeps the tradition of having an Elon related person speak at commencements.

In a video announcement, incoming President Connie Book said she made the selection after hearing from senior class officers. Lambert will be step down as President March 1, with Book, who was selected in October, beginning her term immediately after that. Lambert will speak in a President-Emeiritus role.

Connie Book accepts a gift from President Leo Lambert during her public announcement as president Oct. 9, 2017.

"I cannot think of a better way for President Lambert to cap his 19-year career than by delivering the final charge to the Class of 2018,” Book said in a statement. "President Lambert welcomed them to campus four years ago and has been the leader of the institution throughout their undergraduate careers. The senior class officers and I felt it only fitting that he should give them a final send-off before they embark on their professional journeys.”
