One member of the Elon University women’s track and field team has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Junior Bryanna Hames is the first athlete in program history to qualify after finishing 11th overall in the discus at the NCAA East Preliminaries on Friday, May 26. This was the result of a 174 feet 6 inches (53.20 meters) throw — a new personal and school record.

Teammate Bre'anna Warren also competed in the discus. She finished the event in 42nd place with her best throw of 146 feet 10 inches (44.77 meters). This was the redshirt junior’s first-ever NCAA East Preliminary meet.

Elsewhere at the meet, Kimberly Johansen set a new personal and school record in her last race of her career. The senior ran the 1,500-meter race in 4:18.42, which was good enough for 15th place, but not enough to get inside the top-12 and go with Hames to Eugene.

The NCAA Outdoor Championships are scheduled to take place June 7-10 at Hayward Field, home of the University of Oregon track and field team.
