The 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) football schedule has been released online, revealing the Elon University football team’s eight conference games.

The University of Delaware sent out a release late Thursday night stating that the CAA announced the league schedule for 2016, which was posted in a grid linked to the website.

The Phoenix will open CAA play Week 4 by traveling to the College of William & Mary Sept. 24.

The next four weeks will see Elon at home, with three games and a bye week. The Phoenix faces the University of Villanova for the first time as a CAA opponent Oct. 1. The University of New Hampshire travels down to North Carolina Oct. 8 before a Week 7 bye week. Elon then will host the University of Richmond Oct. 22, finishing the three straight home games.

The Phoenix will travel to the State University of New York at Albany for its first conference meeting with the Great Danes Oct. 29. Elon has another road game Nov. 5 at Towson University.

Elon comes home Nov. 12 to host the University of Rhode Island, the first matchup in the CAA between the schools. The Phoenix finishes its season at James Madison University Nov. 19.

The three CAA schools Elon will not play in 2016 are the University of Maine, the University of Delaware, and Stony Brook University.

The Phoenix's three nonconference games have dates, but the opponents for two have yet to be determined. The Phoenix will play at home Sept. 3 and Sept. 17 and will host Gardner-Webb University and Division II Fayetteville State University, but it is not known which home date Elon will play the two schools.

Elon’s lone nonconference road game will be Sept. 10 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, who plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
