Demitri Allison's death has been ruled a suicide, according to a UNC Police report.

Allison, an Elon University junior, died Wednesday after falling from a 10-story residence hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

According to the police report, the investigation is ongoing. Whether drugs or alcohol was involved in the death is unknown, per the report.

An Elon University student died Wednesday after falling from 10-story Morrison Residence Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, according to an email from Smith Jackson, vice president for student life.

Demitri Allison, 21 and a native of Cornelius, North Carolina, was a junior management major and wide receiver on the Elon football team.

There will be a gathering of friends at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Rhodes Stadium open to all.

“Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated,” said Athletics Director Dave Blank in the email. “Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we pray for his family and loved ones.”

According to the email, Allison left campus Tuesday, and his friends, family and teammates asked police to look for him because “they were concerned for his well-being and emotional state.”

Elon’s counseling and chaplain staff are available to meet with students grieving, according to the email.

Allison played in all nine Elon football games this season, including Saturday’s loss to College of William & Mary.
