The Elon University women’s tennis team shut out No. 6 Towson University 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament on Friday, April 17.

Senior Brabora Lazarova and freshmen Erica Braschi and Kirsten Ward picked up wins in singles against the Tigers to jump out to a tremendous start.

Phoenix freshmen Olivia Lucas and Bridget Liddell doubled up senior Ayana Dow and freshmen Lucy Williams 8-4 at No. 2 doubles while junior Taylor Casey and Braschi clinched the doubles point with a hard-fought tiebreaker win at No. 3 doubles against Towson senior Cailey Easdale and freshmen Barobora Vaslikova 8-7 (7).

The Phoenix picked up three straight set wins in singles play to take the match. First, Ward defeated freshman Nicole Sharkhnazarova 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Soon after, Braschi beat freshman AJ Gomer.

Lazarova sealed the victory for the Phoenix with her win at No. 3 singles. Lazarova defeated sophomore Sophia Lesage 6-2, 6-4.

With the win, Elon improves to 15-7 this year while Towson drops to 12-9.

Elon will have a rematch with second-seeded College of Charleston tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the semifinals. The Cougars came back from a 3-1 deficit April 10 at Elon, to notch a 4-3 come-from-behind victory.
