The Elon University women’s tennis team was eliminated from the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament following a 4-1 loss to the College of Charleston Saturday.

The Phoenix were unable to avenge its loss to Charleston eight days ago when it was defeated 4-3 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Elon fell behind early dropping the doubles point, although junior Taylor Casey and freshman Erica Braschi gave Elon the early advantage with an 8-3 win over McAmis and Baker at No. 3 doubles

Charleston rebounded with two convincing wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. First, senior Jenny Falcone and junior Katherine Schofield defeated freshman Kirsten Ward and senior Barbora Lazarova 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. Then, Charleston senior Samantha Maddox and sophomore Mara Argyriou clinched the point with an 8-3 victory over Elon freshmen Olivia Lucas and Bridget Liddell.

Charleston went ahead 2-0 after a win at No. 5 singles. Senior Jenny Falcone edged Casey in the first set and used the momentum to dominate the second in her 7-6 (1), 6-1 victory.

Lazarova earned a victory at No. 3 singles to put Elon on the board for the first time. The senior defeated Argyriou in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in her last competitive for the Phoenix.

Grace Baker gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead with a win at No. 6 singles by defeating freshman Kamila Beisenova in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Maddox’s victory over Ward at No. 1 singles sent the Phoenix packing. Despite losing the first set, Maddox fought back to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Charleston advances to tomorrow’s championship match against College of William & Mary, the tournament host. The loss drops Elon to 15-8 to close out their season.
