Senior Chelsea White received her first loss of the season when the Elon University softball team traveled to face the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Wednesday. Coming off of a 6-3 loss to Longwood University Tuesday, the Phoenix lost 12-4 at UNC.

White pitched two and two thirds innings and gave up three runs on six hits. She was the first of three pitchers Elon used on the day. Senior Caitlin O’Shea appeared in relief of White and threw two thirds of an inning. O’Shea gave up one earned run along with two walks but did no allow any hits. Junior Kayla Caruso followed O’Shea and finished the remaining two and a third.

Caruso conceded eight runs on six hits and three walks to the Tar Heels.

Junior Emily Cameron led the Elon offense with two hits three RBI and a stolen base in her three at-bats. She improved her season batting average to .224 and RBI total to 21.

Senior Aly Quintana contributed to the offense. Her solo home run in the sixth was the first of two runs the Phoenix scored in the inning. Sophomore Carey Million also had two hits on the day and a run scored in the sixth.

While the Elon offense produced, it could not keep up with the pace of UNC.

The loss brings Elon's overall record to 26-17 while the Colonial Athletic Association record remains at 8-7. The Phoenix will next travel to James Madison University on Saturday for its second to last regular season series in the CAA. JMU is a formidable opponent that is undefeated (14-0) in CAA play.
