Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year senior Stefan Fortmann led the Elon University men’s tennis team past Drexel University in Friday's CAA tournament quarterfinals.

The senior earned victories in singles and doubles to help blank the No. 7 Dragons 4-0.

Senior Brian Kowalski and Fortmann started things off for the Phoenix with an 8-2 win over senior Alex Fiorovante and junior Xabier Saavedra at No. 1 doubles. Senior Brian Kowalski and junior Jordan Kaufman clinched the doubles point by defeating senior Dan Koehler and freshman Kashyap Ashok 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

With the doubles point already in hand, Elon swept the top three singles positions to eliminate the Dragons.

Kaufman earned the Phoenix a second point with a win over Ashok at No. 2 singles and lost just one game in his 6-1, 6-0 straight set victory.

Junior Robert Lindgren topped Kaufman’s performance by dominating Saavedra 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to extend Elon’s lead to 3-0.

Fortmann wrapped up the match with his 6-1, 6-0 win against Drexel senior Badr Ouabdelmoumen at No. 1 singles.

Kowalski, freshman Josh Luck and sophomore Chris Humphrey all won first sets in their respective matches before the 4-0 decision was decided/

With the win, Elon improves to 10-12 this season and advances to the CAA semifinals to square off against the College of William & Mary Saturday at 2 p.m. If the Phoenix defeats the Tribe, it will earn a trip to the conference championship match on Sunday/
