wo hits were all Elon could manage when it traveled to Virginia Tech University on Wednesday. The Phoenix snapped a three-game winning streak in the 6-2 loss.

Elon struck out 10 times and had its side retired twice. The offense just never clicked and it cost Elon the game. In the top of the fifth inning, the team got its first hit of the game from sophomore Carey Million. In the top of the seventh, the Phoenix crossed the plate twice.

But the late comeback was too little too late.

Junior Kayla Caruso started on the mound for Elon and gave up one run on five hits in 3.2 innings. She received the loss for the game.

Freshman Kiandra Mitchum, who only lasted two thirds of an inning, was the first Phoenix relief pitcher. She allowed four runs, one of which was earned, on two hits. Senior Chelsea White pitched for the remainder of the game and surrendered one run on two hits.

The Phoenix pitching just could not match up with the Virginia Tech offense.

The non-conference loss drops Elon's record to 22-10 (4-2 Colonial Athletic Associate). The Phoenix will return home Saturday to play Towson University for the third game of the season series.
