The Elon University men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invite in 18th place on Tuesday, March 10. Freshman Jake Leavitt and junior Jonathan Dilanni led the way for the Phoenix as the two finished tied for 42nd with a three-round score of 216.

University of South Carolina’s Will Starke took the individual crown with a score of 201 as he led the rest of his Gamecock squad to the overall victory over rivals Clemson University by one stroke.

Dilanni, redshirt-freshman Charlie May and senior Will Dilanni all shot three-over rounds of 73 on Tuesday.

Leavitt shot a four-over 74, while junior Troy Beaver rounded out Elon’s roster with a final round score of 76.

The Phoenix sat in 17th place after the first day at the Palmetto Golf Club, which featured two rounds of play. Leavitt led the way for Elon as he was tied for 36th place overall after a two-over 36 hole round of 142.

Leavitt recorded the only under-par round of the tournament for the Phoenix shooting a one-under round of 69 during his second round on Monday, March 9.

Dilanni was not too far behind as he finished the day with a three-over score of 143. The score put the Purdue University transfer tied for 42nd after day one.

Redshirt-freshman Charlie May finished third for the Phoenix shooting a nine-over round of 149. Senior Will Dilanni and junior Troy Beaver rounded out the Phoenix lineup with 12-over rounds of 152.

The Phoenix will return to the links on Sunday, March 22 when it takes part in the Blue Devil Spring Invitational in Durham, North Carolina at the Duke University Golf Club.
