The Elon University baseball team was swept for the first time at Latham Park against a non-conference opponent since 1999, losing a blowout 20-4 game to East Carolina University.

East Carolina got off to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning and ensued to score in every inning up until the seventh.

Down 20-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, sophomore utility player Nick Zammarelli hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to deny a shutout by the Pirates. The Phoenix would earn two more runs in the next inning off a wild pitch before a groundout by senior catcher Chris King gave Elon its final run of the game.

Senior pitcher Jake Stalzer took home his third loss of the season after giving up seven runs on 10 hits in three innings of work. Redshirt junior pitcher David Lucroy earned his second win this year after pitching six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits.

The Phoenix will remain at Latham Park for two games against the University of Mayland on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both first pitch times are scheduled to be at 4 p.m.
