Looking at the #1 song on Valentine’s Day for the past decade, it’s easy to see how popular music taste has changed over time. Although a few of these selections are about love or relationships, a few songs wouldn’t be the first to come to mind when you think “Valentine’s Day.” I don’t know about you, but “Thrift Shop” doesn’t exactly make me thingk of love or little candy hearts.

Snuggling up and popping a romantic movie into the DVD player is a Valentine’s Day activity enjoyed by many couples.

Ten years ago, the movie rated most romantic was the tragic love story "Titanic." The romance between Jack and Rose is unparalleled by any other in film. Nicholas Sparks’ novel-to-film adaptations are often named the most romantic films in this day and age. "The Notebook," in particular, is renowned and popular romantic drama with memorable characters. Despite its release nearly 10 years ago, the film still remains a fan favorite.

In terms of modern love stories, "The Fault in Our Stars" was the highest grossing romantic film of 2014. With its sweet, insightful dialogue and its tragic ending, it’s easy to see why this film has such high reviews.

Celebrity couples

The iconic relationship between Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears characterized celebrity culture in the early 2000s. At the American movie awards in 2001, the musicians strutted the red carpet in matching all denim outfits- now considered to be a classic of the era.

Today’s indisputable power couples are the highly influential Beyonce and Jay-Z and the fashionable Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (Kimye). Within the last year, Kim and Kanye were featured on the cover of Vogue magazine- making Kanye the first rapper to be featured on the cover in the history of the magazine. Beyonce and Jay-Z have released a number of hit songs together and recently completed a sold-out world tour.
