The Elon University women’s track and field team closed out competition in the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The event took place from Friday through Saturday and saw a few standout performances from Elon athletes.

In Friday’s events, junior Jennifer Esposito recorded the fastest time in the 400-meter dash with a 57.25 finish. The dash occurred in the preliminary rounds.

In the field events, junior Megan Kirschling gave the Phoenix a top-ten finish as she placed seventh overall in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5’ 4.25’’.

To close out the Invitational on Saturday, junior Sydney Griffin came in second place for the 60-meter hurdles with a final time of 8.82. Griffin qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) indoor meet off her runner-up finish. Sophomore Bre’anna Warren placed eighth overall in the shot put with her 44’ 2’’ throw while freshman Lydia Laws gave Elon its best finish in the long jump with her leap of 17’ 1.25’’, enough for a 16th place finish.

The Phoenix will return to the track next week for the High Point Challenge at the JDL Fast Track Complex in Salem, N.C. on Thursday, Feb. 12.
