The Elon University men’s basketball team dropped it fourth straight game on Saturday, Feb. 7 in its match-up against the Hofstra University Pride by a score of 80-69.

In light of the loss, the Phoenix registered three players in double figure points. Senior guard Austin Hamilton continued his hot streak by leading the team with 21 points. Following him was freshman guard Elijah Bryant who finished with 15, while junior guard Tanner Samson scored 12 off of four 3-pointers.

The Phoenix offense shot the ball relatively well, especially in free throw shooting in the second half (72.7%). Hofstra put forth four different players with double-figure points led by senior guard Dion Nesmith who finished with 22.

Elon kept the game close throughout most of the first half and even had the score tied at 37-37 after an Elijah Bryant 3-pointer. Hofstra converted two free throws from Nesmith just before halftime to give itself a two-point advantage at 39-37 as both teams entered its respective locker rooms.

In the second-half, the Phoenix burst with offensive output off a 9-0 run and took a 58-57 lead after consecutive 3-pointers by Hamilton and Samson. An ensuing 7-0 run by Hofstra put Elon away for good as the Pride would eventually take a 14-point lead over the Phoenix.

After a few days of rest, Elon will return to the court on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the College of William & Mary. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
