The Elon women’s basketball team traveled to the North Carolina coast on Thursday, Jan. 22 to take on Colonial Athletic Association opponent, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. A late comeback just came up short, giving the Phoenix its third CAA loss of the season by a score of 76-68.

In the first half, the Phoenix struggled against the Wilmington shooters who put up 39 points and shot nearly 50 percent. Elon only put up 21 points and shot 25 percent from the field.

Both senior forward Sam Coffer and sophomore guard Lauren Brown made significant contributions to pick up the Elon offense. Coffer landed 12 points along with seven rebounds. Brown put up 11 points and two rebounds of her own.

Despite the flood of team chemistry in the second half, the deficit was too large and the Phoenix lost.

They return to Alumni Gym on Sunday, January 25 to take on Northeastern University at 2 pm.
