The Elon University volleyball team had trouble attacking the University of North Carolina at Wilmington's net defense on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) loss to the Seahawks in Wilmington.

UNCW outblocked Elon 14.5-3 and held the Phoenix to just 29 kills. Meredith Peacock and Sarah Kelly each led the Seahawks with seven blocks. 

Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Agae led Elon with 10 kills, while sophomore libero Morgan Maner had 10 digs. Junior setter Ana Nicksic recorded 14 assists, while redshirt-freshman setter Sydel Curry had 10.

The Phoenix went up 6-2 before UNCW reeled off six straight points to take the lead. The Seahawks slowly built that lead up to 19-13 and held on for the victory.

UNCW took a 12-5 lead to begin the second set. The Phoenix responded with four straight points to cut the deficit to three. Kills from Agae, freshman outside hitter Sydney Busa and senior middle blocker Kris Harris helped Elon to a 16-15 lead. But UNCW ended on an 8-1 run to seal the set.

The Seahawks led by as much as 11 in the final set. Morgan Kline tallied 12 kills.

Elon falls to 6-23 on the season and 1-12 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Phoenix will play at 5 p.m. Saturday against College of Charleston.
