More Elon University track and field athletes will run at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round than ever before when five members of the Phoenix team head to Jacksonville, Fla., May 29-31.

Senior Bria Bell will run in the 400-meters, freshman Jennifer Esposito in the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Sydney Griffin in the 100-meter hurdles and Allyson Oram in the 10,000-meters. Sophomore Megan Kirchsling will compete in the high jump.

It's the third time in the last four years Elon has sent runners to the NCAA East Prelims. The record number of competitors prior to this year was two.

"To have a school-record five athletes qualify for the NCAAs is a testament to their hard work and determination over the year," said Mark Elliston, Elon head track and field coach in a press release. "We're looking forward to representing the university with a strong showing next week in Jacksonville."

The 12 best finishers will advance to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the NCAA Championships June 6-14.
