Four high school seniors have committed to the Elon University men’s basketball team and head coach Matt Matheny as of May 15.

It fills four of the five open scholarships for next season. Matheny and his staff are not entirely done recruiting this class just yet, and are keeping their options open.

The most recent commitment was Dmitri Thompson, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Orlando Christian Prep in Orlando, Fla. He’s won two Florida 2-A State Championships during his career, and the team went 30-1 last year.

Early in his high school career, Thompson drew interest from programs such as Oklahoma State University, Purdue University and the University of Miami. In the end, Florida Atlantic and Wofford College, among others, were on Thompson’s list.

He visited Elon this past weekend, hanging out with rising sophomores Christian Hairston and Brian Dawkins, and, Duke University forward Marshall Plumlee.

Collin Luther, a 6-foot-6 swingman from the Pittsburgh area, signed on this spring. He scored more than 1,000 points in his career at Hampton High School, making him the fourth sibling in his family to accomplish that feat. His twin brother, Ryan, is committed to the University of Pittsburgh.

Earlier this spring, Elijah Bryant signed on with Elon. The 6-foot-4 guard and native of Braselton, Ga., Bryant had originally committed to Samford University before attending prep school at New Hampton School in New Hampton, N.H., this past year, where he averaged 20 points per game.

Last fall, Elon drew a commitment from 6-foot-8 forward Jack Anton of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was second in the Greater Catholic league this past season with a 61.7 field goal percentage, averaging 10.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Anton comes from the same high school as Elon junior forward Tony Sabato.

Jack George, a 6-foot-10 center from the Chicago area, will be an invited walk-on on Elon’s roster next season.
