After being released by the Colorado Rockies organization March 21, former Elon University baseball player Steven Hensley was picked up by the Baltimore Orioles organization April 12.

Hensley was signed to a minor league contract. It marks the third organization he’s played for since being selected in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.

Hensley has played six years of minor league ball, the most recent being with Colorado’s AAA-affiliate Colorado Springs in 2013. He has a record of 31-32 in 516 innings and an earned run average of 4.47.

A native of Asheville, N.C., Hensley was drafted by the Washington Nationals out of high school, but did not sign. He played three seasons at Elon, compiling a 24-12 record in 293 innings and an ERA of 4.27. In his junior year of 2008 in which Elon won the Southern Conference Tournament, Hensley was the team’s Friday starter and went 10-2 in 15 starts to earn him SoCon Pitcher of the Year honors.
