Competing at the UNCW Seahawk Classic in Wallace, N.C., the Elon University women’s golf team claimed its second tournament title of the year.

Before Sunday, Elon had not won two tournaments in the same year since 2009-10. The Phoenix finished the tournament with a combined score of 907, shooting rounds of 297, 306 and 304. Elon won the event by eight strokes over second-place University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Individually, freshman Kelsey Badmaev finished second in the event with a score of 221, shooting rounds of 73, 73 and 75. Her score placed her five over the par of 216 at River Landing Golf Club. For Badmaev, the defending Southern Conference Golfer of the Week, the weekend was her best score of her Elon career.

Sophomore Sunna Vidisdottir followed Badmaev by shooting 223, placing her third individually. Vidisdottir shot a tournament-best 69 in her first round but regressed, shooting a pair of 77s in her second and third rounds.

Sophomore Kathryn Buckingham finished tied for 13th with a score of 231 and rounds of 75, 75 and 81.

Junior Katie Partridge shot 240, placing her 27th overall. Partridge opened the event with rounds of 80 and 86, but rebounded with a Sunday 74.

Rounding out the Elon contingent was sophomore Emily Brooks, who shot 243 with rounds of 84, 81 and 78.

UNCW Senior Lori Beth Adams, a graduate of nearby Western Alamance High School, won the individual title with a score of 217, only one over par. She shot 74, 71 and 72 over her three rounds.

Elon will return to action at its final scheduled tournament of the year, the Southern Conference Championship in Hilton Head, S.C. The event begins Sunday, April 13 and runs through Tuesday, April 15.
